Carpet density is the amount of yarn a piece of carpet contains. There are certain variances in the amount of yarn a carpet holds. As you walk on a carpet, you may notice some carpet is fluffier than others. Yarn is the material a lot of manufacturers use to produce best-selling carpet. A consumer can tell the difference in carpet density when they walk on the carpet. There are also other factors that contribute to the density of carpet.

Carpet Face Weight

Fiber is an essential part of carpet as well. The carpet face weight is the amount of fiber that is in each square foot of carpeting. The concept of carpet face weight is simple because the more the carpet weighs then the more fiber that is in the carpet. Most experts would say that the heavier a piece of carpet is, then the more expensive it is as well. The carpet is priced higher because it is also a higher quality product.

Carpet Durability

If you are a consumer looking for the most ideal carpet, then carpet durability is as important as the density. The durability is simply how well the carpet can withstand everyday use and foot traffic. You can easily tell how durable a carpet is by testing it out. A lot of carpet companies test out their carpets for durability before sending out to businesses for resale. The durability of a carpet is usually rated by a number system. The number can be 1-2 for light traffic durability. Number 3 means the carpet can withstand normal foot traffic and number 4 means it can handle heavy traffic. If you find a carpet at a level 4 rating, then you have hit the jackpot in carpet durability.

Carpet Fibers

Since you are looking at the carpet density, weight, and durability, you should also consider the fibers. There are many different fiber materials that carpets are made out of. However, there are four major types of fiber materials. Those fiber materials are known as nylon, polyester, wool and polypropylene carpet fibers. The type of fiber a company chooses to use is based on the look and feel they want out of the carpet.

Carpet Details are Essential

Choosing a carpet includes a lot more detail than one might realize. Carpet density is one of the most important aspects of choosing a carpet. This is because it determines how thick and comfortable a carpet will be for use in a home or business. Checking out all of these factors can guarantee you make a good decision when it comes to choosing a carpet.

Many people avoid installing new carpeting because they are told that in order to obtain acceptable quality they must pay a premium price. The conventional wisdom is that if you buy cheap carpet, “you get what you pay for”. However, this is not necessarily the case. If you practice due diligence, there are many situations in which cheap carpet is of more than adequate quality.

The best way to get the lowest possible price is to look for what is known as builder’s grade carpet. This is the carpeting that is found in most newly constructed homes. It can be purchased for as little as fifty cents per square foot. Builder’s grade is usually made of some kind of recycled plastic such as polyester or Olefin. Olefin is better than polyester, which tends to be matted down and is worn out quickly. The texture of Olefin also hides dirt better. Builder’s grade also usually has lower fiber density than more expensive carpet, which means that the tufts of material used are farther apart than in carpets of higher fiber density. This density is what most influences longevity. Therefore, builder’s grade would not typically be a good choice for areas with a lot of foot traffic. However, keep in mind that carpet thickness does not have an effect on quality. A thick rug may look luxurious but if the density is low, it will not last long.

Foot traffic is the number one consideration when considering buying inexpensive carpeting, because durability is the main thing that distinguishes a cheap carpet from a more expensive one. For example, buying inexpensive carpeting for stairways is almost never a good idea because stairways receive the heaviest foot traffic of any area in the home. However, for other areas such as bedrooms less expensive alternatives can make sense. In addition, if you vacuum frequently, have a small number of people in the home, do not have indoor pets, and clean your carpet every two years, a less durable builder’s grade carpet will last considerably longer. A dark rug, such as a dark brown one will also look better longer than one of a lighter color.

The other major consideration when looking at inexpensive carpeting is the material, which also affects durability because different materials have different strengths and levels of resistance to stains and soil. Nylon is the strongest material, and a nylon rug can go for a very long time without looking threadbare, but it is more susceptible to staining than most materials. Polyester, as with builder’s grade, is weaker but also cheaper and more stain resistant. Wool is very durable but the most expensive. For cheap carpet that is still reasonably strong, Olefin is usually the best choice for a fabric.

Here are some other, less important factors to consider when looking for cheap carpeting. One is the texture, with the Berber texture with its tightly packed loops being the most durable. Another is the wear rating, with carpeting rated “high traffic” being more resistant to matting. However, there is no set standard, and “high traffic” carpeting durability will vary tremendously between manufacturers. The twist level, which is a measure of how tightly materials are twisted together, affects price more than durability, especially in the case of loop-pile carpeting like Berber.

To get the best deal on cheap carpet, do some patient searching on the internet, looking for the best combination of price and durability factors. For example, Owen Carpet has a Berber, Olefin style for 50 cents per square foot, and that would be a better deal than a carpet costing the same price but of a different texture. Do not stop searching until you have checked out at least several dozen websites, and be sure to check websites giving general advice on carpeting so you can be a more informed consumer.

If you’ve settled into a new home (either built or new to you) and are considering some additional changes, then flooring is obviously one major thing to look at. And besides wall paint, can make a huge difference in the entire look, feel, and practical use of any room in your house. Looking at family members who will be living with me and friends who will be visiting my home, I figure I need to get smart when buying my carpet. Issues I have to put into consideration:

1. I don’t want a carpet to be the cause to any respiratory problems, or skin rashes due to contact with chemicals used to treat the carpet. I also don’t want any allergies triggered from my carpets.

2. I need a carpet that will be able to withstand a lot of wear and tear while still maintaining a fairly new look for a good period of time.

3. I want to have a carpet that allows me to clean and maintain it without too much of a fuss. If I can find something I can hose off, the better!

Now, the two main types of fibres used to make carpets today are nylon and polyester. But just which of the two would come out shining if I was to pit a nylon vs polyester carpet? Here I go:

1. The pricing of a nylon vs polyester carpet

Generally, the quality of each of these two fibres is the determining factor in which kind of carpet will be produced. I graded the carpets produced from nylon, and they are termed as “middle to high end” quality while polyester produces carpets graded between “cheap and middle end”. The most obvious effect I noted on pricing is that nylon carpets are more expensive than polyester.

2. Quality of a nylon vs polyester carpet

I have no doubt about it; nylon makes a really tough carpet that will withstand high amounts of traffic without showing any signs of aging. A polyester carpet on the other hand, will get matted over time from high traffic. Nylon wins this one.

3. Cleaning and maintenance of a nylon vs polyester carpet

I’d need to buy a specially treated nylon carpet to ensure that it’s stain resistant. If not, then I understand that I’ll be dealing with an unsightly carpet as nylon tends to soak in stains through its dyed fibres then lock them in. Polyester, on the other hand, is dyed while it’s still in molten form. What this means for me is that there won’t be any risk of having stains stick on my carpet. Cleaning is made easier with a polyester carpet.

4. Nylon versus polyester as fibres

Polyester is a synthetic fibre while nylon is a polymer which resembles plastic. That immediately puts polyester ahead as the carpet that would be most environmentally and human.

My conclusion? We ended up buying a polyester frieze carpet for the entire house. Originally we considered using both, nylon for some areas and polyester for the higher traffic areas. But in the end, we got a pretty good deal through Big Bobs carpet here locally and ended going with all frieze.

As part of my home remodelling project, I wanted to convert my basement into more of a living space than just a storage area of sorts. After going through all the other remodelling activities such as getting more light and fresh air into the basement by adding a few window fans, I had to deal with the overall look of the room. Painting of the walls aside (we went with gray “oops” paint we found at Home Depot , 5 gallons for a whopping $9!!), I was left with the one part of the basement that seemed to take up more thought and work than I had bargained for; the floor. Even after getting it redone, I still needed to find a carpet to both provide warmth and to enhance the general look of the room. Plus, it had to be durable and possibly even hold up to water as our basement had been known to flood from time to time. Something I had hoped I recently fixed by applying some silicon caulking around some pipes that came in through the wall from the exterior of the house. Once we were ready to carpet, we’d do some research into the best carpet for basement use.

First, I was looking to eliminate the possibility of any rotting/odours coming from a damp floor being covered by a carpet in below-grade room. For this, I asked around a couple of home improvement stores and did your basic internet search. Also, from experience I figured berber would be the best bet. Some suggested a vapour barrier but I didn’t give that much thought as it sounded complicated and adding price to my project. I was looking at both moisture that might seep in through the slab or moisture that might come about as a result of general dampness in the basement/environment. Even if I get the best carpet for basement use, it won’t matter if it’s exposed to dampness and generally lies in a place where it is left to rot and develop mildew. With that in mind, I did decide to do a little research on types of moisture barriers to use on the floor before putting down the carpet.

One of the main types of barrier layers which are used as the first layer in contact with the floor is dimpled polyethylene. Its dimples work to provide much needed air space and to also act as a moisture barrier for the area between the floor itself and the next level such as a carpet or plywood. I was advised to lay plywood as another layer before a carpet pad then the carpet itself if I felt that there was more risk of moisture seeping in from the concrete floor itself. It was to acquired the dimpled polyethylene underlayment that was 6 micrometers thick; found from most home improvement stores and I understand that its also easily found at suppliers of flooring materials, hardware and even online.

Thereafter, a bit more research into reviews by home owners who had used a variety of carpets for their basement rooms led me to believe that Berber carpets are regarded as the best carpet for basement or below-grade rooms. I saw some samples and I must say that durability due to the strong fibres used to make them and the method of weaving used was evident. It also helps that they are highly stain resistant and felt very comfortable to the touch and had an exquisitely exotic look to it. We ended up finding some great Berber remnants for a few hundred bucks (if I recall exactly, I know it was pretty cheap and surprised me at the quality) at a local carpet retailer and had enough to carpet our entire basement.

This was several years ago and since then we had some moisture in our basement and had to pull up the carpet and dry it out. Our sump pump went on the fritz and our basement flooded. Of course this also meant we had to get rid of the padding. But the Berber remnant was still in great shape so we just let it lay without any padding for a few years. Then, I guess it was in 2010, we had new carpet installed throughout the house and pad the installers $70 to put padding back in and re-tack the basement carpet down. It’s turned out pretty nice and we’re pretty sure we picked the best carpet for us and our basement

There are ways to beat the financial crunch and find good bargains for home improvements projects. Just because you’re looking for cheap carpet, flooring, and cheap prices, this does not have to mean cheap quality. Good bargains are out there and it is all in comparison-shopping. You can surf the websites of your favorite retail stores and see what is on clearance. You might be surprised. Sometimes those clearances come with free installation by the store’s trained professionals. Maintaining a home is necessary for the longevity of the structure and it adds to the equity value of the property. Replacing worn or deteriorated flooring makes good sense. Good quality and cheap prices can go hand in hand if you know how to shop and compare. You might even be able to get some added services thrown in with the bargain of a clearance sale. Look around and start locally with your neighborhood to see what they have to offer.

If you decided to go in person, be sure to take with you all the measurements of the rooms you would to cover and compose an idea of the decor model you would like to create. If you would like to toss the carpet and go for a more sleek type such as hardwood, bamboo, cork, or vinyl, look around for bargains for builder’s grade if you are handy and feel up to some do-it-yourself projects. Many do-it-yourself retail stores such as Lowe’s or Home Depot have free installation with specials on flooring or you might wish to install it yourself.

Limestone natural stone tile is a wonderful selection for flooring and it goes with any décor in light browns, beige, or yellow tones. What an elegant touch to a home and with some comparison-shopping, flooring such as this can be found at bargain prices. Cheap flooring, whether carpet or a hardwood or stone finish can be found for less than $1.00 Sq. Ft. or less than $10.00 Sq. Yd. at many online stores or retail outlets.

These bargain prices are wonderful for someone getting a home ready for the seller’s market, but with some of the quality products available at these dirt-cheap prices, you can find beautiful products for your own home.

The best way to begin looking for good quality products at cheap prices is to ask your local retailers when and what will be on clearance within the time frame you need. Then, in addition, go online and look around. You can search according to product name or just type in cheap flooring in the address bar and see what pops up. Many times the bargains are within driving distance to get a first hand look or you might want to go for the free shipping and handling with free installation that accompanies so many clearances good quality products.

Be sure to have an idea of the flooring purpose when you shop. Do you need something durable for pets and children or extreme weather conditions? Will it need to withstand humid temperatures? There is something for every type of need and every design to match your existing décor. With just a little work, you can find exquisite products that you can refinish yourself.

Discount or cheap carpet is a smart economical decision for getting the most for your money in these tough times and allows you the extra leeway for unforeseen expenses with your decorating project for incidental items such as padding or tape measures and other accessories. You might be able to redo your entire house for a bargain you cannot pass up; and yes that can even be done with carpet remnants. Most retail stores have experienced professionals standing by who are more than willing to help you find just the right product at the best prices. They also can be a wealth of information on how to care for your new flooring. Cheap prices and quality flooring sound like a bargain to anyone.

Steps to Finding Cheap Carpet
The most valuable asset you have when looking for cheap carpet is patience and knowledge. Having the patience to shop around, not make a decision on a whim and the knowledge to know what is within your budget. Here’s a good plan for finding cheap carpet which will be sure to be within budget and align with your style and carpeting goals.

1. Establish a Budget
Know what you can afford for carpeting or flooring your renovation or new job. You never know, you might not have to actually settle for discounted or cheap carpet. Sure you want to spend the least about possible, but until you establish a budget you’re not going to know where to start looking. Keep in mind however, you may find that there just isn’t any carpet cheap enough to fit within your budget. If that’s the case, you may want to reconsider the type of floor coverying you’re going to need.

2. Arm Yourself with Knowledge
Don’t be afraid to shop around to many different local carpet and flooring retailers or outlets in your area. A lot of stores will have specials running at different times of the year. Don’t be pressured into purchasing something you don’t want and it’s good to have an idea of what to expect when you walk into a store. Keep in mind that most often the ads you see about carpet specials are more about getting customers into the store then actually selling them the advertised specail. It’s a common marketing and sales technique most often used by car dealers. That’s not to say this is always the case. Check with your local Home Depot or Lowes if you have one and start there with looking for carpet deals and what they charge for installation. For example, I know in my hometown Home Depot often runs specials like $37 for entire home installation. Often, installation is where you can make up some of the money and keep within your budget.

Comparison shopping is probably your best tool when looking for cheap carpet. Find a good quality carpet you’re happy with in a price range that you’re also comfortable with. Then start calling or shoppping around to see who has the best deal. Carpet prices vary greatly and can run anywhere from $8 a square yard to well over $30 a square yard. Typically you can expect to add $1 to the price of the carpet to figure in installation and another $1 for padding. That’s just a rule of thumb though so keep that in mind, but it’s a good start when trying to come up with a high level estimate of what you’re looking at spending.

3. Be Patient
Besides knowledge, patience is also a good key in your arsenal when shopping for discount flooring and carpet. It’s no big news that a lot of sales tactics (in any business) are geared around pressure; making you feel like you’re going to miss out on something if you don’t act now. There comes a time in your shopping where you’re just going to feel right about the decision you’re about to make. Try holding out until you feel that. Of course there also comes a time when you just need to make a decision, sometimes even if the carpet or flooring isn’t as cheap as you’d hoped.

My wife and I were looking for Frieze Carpet to replace our plush carpet in our entire house. We were actually getting the house ready to sell, so finding cheap carpet was important. We didn’t necessarily want builders grade carpet, but we wanted something nice. Here’s another good tip, you want neutral colors in your house when trying to sell, especially the walls and carpet. The reason is you do not want the topic of conversation being the carpet or walls, actually you don’t want that to really come up at all. And guess what, I learned that great tip from the guy who actually ended up selling us our carpet. My wife and I shopped and shopped and most often felt pressured by the salesmen. We knew what we wanted and just wanted to comparison shop and have someone there to answer questions if we had any. We ended up going to this one carpet outlet, Big Bob’s Flooring and this gentleman there was really nice. Just let us know he was there if we had any questions. We asked him about a certain carpet and what we were trying to do (sell our house). He gave us a TON of information and always mentioned that “where ever” you purchase you’re carpet, look for these things and was just the most helpful guy. We ended up buying it from there because we really liked the guy, didn’t feel pressured, and he helped us make the right decision for our budget and needs. Here’s the amazing part, we later saw a commercial on TV and realized the guy that helped us was Big Bob himself! A very humble guy and if you have a Big Bobs near you, I seriously suggest you check him out. And I must also tell you that I’m in no way affiliated with Big Bobs. It was just a great experience and we found cheap carpet (but nice and just what we wanted) that fit within our budget.

So have patience when looking for your flooring and carpet and don’t be afraid to walk out of a store if you don’t feel right.

4. Make a Decision
There comes a time, even when shopping for cheap carpet, that you just have to make a decision. If you’re having trouble figuring out what to do, just go with your gut and you’ll be fine. Hey, it’s only carpet!

Bound carpet remnants are remnants of carpet left when the warehouse has finished stopping a roll of carpet ordered or being sent out to wholesale or resellers. The best thing about getting carpet remnants is they’re just as good as the original carpet, there just isn’t (in most cases) as much of it. The term “bound carpet remnants” is really just another way of saying the same thing. It all refers to the same carpet that is left over, remnants. Bound simply suggests that the carpet is already rolled and tied and is ready to ship or have someone pick it up “as is.” Most often these bound carpet rolls will list what type, width and length attached or marked for purchase along with the price.

Since these are just that, remnants, sometimes the price can be negotiated. We stress that may be the case, but not always. It just depends on where you purchase and the amount they have laying around. More often then not, they’ll have the bound remnants separated by quality or quantity with the older and less desired or odd shapes costing less than the more expensive stuff. It’s best to look for bound carpet remnants as a solution when you’re not needed something immediate. It may take time to find the texture, size, pattern, or type of fiber you need. Just like full carpet prices, wool fiber will run more than synthetic fibers. But you may still be able to get great prices on remnants of high quality.

Due to the weight, discount and bound carpet remnants may still be somewhat expensive due to shipping costs. But don’t let that sway your decision to search around the web. As stated earlier, remnants are stuff left over and many carpet suppliers are anxious to get them out the door. You may be able to find cheap or even free shipping if you look around long enough.

Your diligence in looking for the right remnants of carpet will surely pay off. Taking the time to search and find what you want in regards to styles and textures will ensure that you get exactly what you want at an affordable price. Many people don’t realize the amount of remnants out there and the availability they have in providing them great carpeting solutions. So whether you’re looking for discount carpet remnants, or even higher end carpet such as wool to finish up a basement or workout area, more than likely, you can find it as left over bound carpet remnants.

There is a misnomer that “carpet remnant” means less than premium quality carpet. This is not necessarily the case. Carpet remnant simply means left over carpet. With that said, most of the quality carpet remnant left over is not enough to be considered useful. This of course, depends on what you are wanting to use it for.

Take for example my current home. Part of the unfinished basement consisted of an area 8 feet wide by 20 feet long. We found a Coliseum Deep Waters quality carpet 12 x 21’10″ and almost 30 square yards online for $194.61. This was enough to carpet our entire area and works great now as our workout room. At around $8 a square yard by the roll, this would have run roughly $240 to purchase outright. A pretty substantial savings.

The key to finding quality carpet remnants is simple knowing where to look. The best place to start is by calling around to all your local carpet dealers and searching for carpet remnants online. The deals are out there, you just have to be patient and know where to look.

Let’s talk a little about quality and what that means. The cheesy easy way out answer would be, quality is objective and depends on what you are looking for. With that said, quality carpet is different depending on what your specific needs are for the carpet. How do you expect it to perform?

Synthetic Type Carpets

Nylon is the most common and preferred synthetic type carpet and can run anywhere from $10 to $35 a square yard. For mildew and more stain resistant, Olefin or Polypropylene is another common synthetic type. Although oil based stains are still more difficult to remove as with most carpet types. This costs from $8 to around $25 a square yard. Polyester is the lower end of synthetic and works good for low traffic areas but is not as durable as the nylon carpet. The price range for Polyester is around $8 to $18 a sq/yard. Since most carpet remnants are used for non-critical areas, some of the cheaper synthetic carpets work great for remnant use.

Natural Fiber Carpets

Some people may prefer natural fibers. There are some pro’s and con’s of both types of carpets however. Natural fibers are attractive to people looking into the new “green” crave! But they are much more expensive. However, they are quite resilient. Wool carpet for example is resistant to stains naturally and is highly durable. It is harder to maintain however and is really expensive ranging from $24 to $60 and up a square yard. Another popular and sort of exotic natural fibered carpet is Coir/Sisal. Starting at $27 and running up to around $40, this fiber is from coconut coir and Mexican sisal agave is good as a dirt repellant fiber but on the down side it also is good at hiding it as well. Seagrass is something that just sounds cool. Most often used for area rugs once bound, it maintains its color natural brown color since it is incapable of holding dye. This runs anywhere from $16 to over $50 a sq/yard.

No matter what your quality carpet remnant needs are, there is a type out there for your needs. You just have to be patient and know where to look. Finding carpet online can be a good source of information, but most often the shipping charges can be quite expensive as well. There are many exceptions to this however, so it never hurts to shop around for carpet remnants, especially online. The best place to start however is calling around to all your local carpet stores, armed with the specific quality and type of remnant you’re looking for, and simple ask if they have that type of remnant in stock.

We’ve talked a lot about finding discount carpet remnants by going around to your local stores, but what about finding cheap carpet remnants online? Yes it is possible, but one thing to keep in mind is shipping. One of the down falls of early online pet-food e-commerce sites was the failed realization of how much shipping would cost for heavy products. Most of these issues have been overcome by now, but when you want to find cheap carpet remnants online, shipping is definitely something to think about.

Someplace many people don’t think about for such things as remnants “online” is, here on eBay.

As mentioned before, your best option is calling around to your local carpet retailers to ask about good deals on remnants of carpet. (is it me, or does the word remnant just always seem odd to spell?) I guess it’s just the two consonants-m and n- right next to each other that seems weird. OK, back to carpet. The best way to find carpet remnants, cheap, is to start searching for carpet warehouses that may have extra carpet. Many times, when large carpet orders are placed by construction companies or office tenants, carpet manufactures have what is cut off from the end of large carpet orders. Sometimes as much as 10 to 30 extra feet is left over. Depending on the size and length of the area you need carpeted, this could be plenty. One place online we found some carpet La Rocca floor coverings. They even have pictures of all the remnants they offer. La Rocca no longer seems to show the remnants they offer online – which is understandable as we’re sure they go through their stock so quickly it really wouldn’t be efficient to take photo’s of everything they offer. Honestly, think about it, wouldn’t you rather they spend time finding and concentrating on good deals then paying someone to constantly be taking photos and updating their website? Like any online carpet retailer, your best bet may be to call and ask for samples. But you need to also be aware that often times remnant samples will not be available as the stock is moved quickly and by the time you receive the sample the carpet will be out the door. Or, since the piece is a remnant to begin with, cutting off samples really isn’t logical. We’re looking for another great online remnant resource for you and will post more information here.

The best method is simply to search online for large carpet retailers or wholesalers. Find a contact number and start calling. Just like you would in the article we posted on finding discount carpet remnants. The thing is, carpet can be extremely heavy and cumbersome to ship, so purchasing online might not be the best and/or cheapest way to go when shopping for carpet. For example, a 12×40′ roll of even cheap Berber carpet carpet can weigh as much as 300 to 400 pounds. That’s pretty darn heavy and the shipping alone would be outrageous. With that said, depending on the size of job, you may be able to get a really good discount if you’re buying in bulk and have your own method of shipping. Such as finding someplace within a few hundred miles and renting a u Haul or something similar to pick up the carpet yourself. However, if you’re just looking for carpet squares and odds and ends, that may be worth looking online and your best bet is to check out eBay, but then again, you should also be able to find what you need locally.

Finding the best price on discount carpet remnants can be a grueling task. The best place to start looking, if you don’t want to pay for shipping, is your local carpet dealers. More often than not, you can pick up the yellow pages, just start calling around to your local carpet stores and dealers, and simply ask them if they have any discounted carpet remnants laying around. Be ready and willing to haggle a price too. More often than not, they just simply want to get rid of it and make more space for new carpet.

Depending on the quality of carpet you’re looking for, many large carpet retailers will also have remnants for sell. We’ve seen commercial builders also purchase carpet bulk for large projects and have remnants left over. A few blocks from one of the offices I was consulting at, there was a large complex of studio lofts being built. I noticed one day they were carpeting and had some odds and ends laying around by their carpet van. I simply went up and asked them what they wanted for it, and they told me I could have it if I hauled it away. It was pretty nice Berber carpet and we used it to carpet our entire basement. Granted we had a few seams but we got it fastened good with carpet glue and haven’t had any problems yet. Our basement is sort of an odd “L” shape anyway so the different sizes worked great for carpeting the entire thing.

Another great idea is to have the discounted carpet remnants bound around the edges and use them for throw rugs and large carpets. Think about the money you can save on a steam carpet cleaner by putting these carpet remnants in high traffic areas. When they get too dirty, just throw them away. We’ve done this several times with the stuff we had left over from the basement job and several others. It works well for the garage, which is where we use remnants to make it a little warmer in there and to soak up any leaks our cars may be dropping.

The thing is, most discount carpet stores, have styles and inventory that they just cannot seem to get rid of. This is why it is a great idea to just get a phone book and start calling around. Or, better yet, drive up with a tuck to these stores and ask if they have any discounted carpet they would simply like taken off their hands. Many times they may just let you take it off their hands for free. Hey, it is worth a shot a least!

No matter what type of carpet your looking for, finding remnants at discounted prices can be done and end up saving you a lot of money. It just takes a little patience and time. If you really are serious about remodeling or carpeting a room in the future, it doesn’t hurt to start looking for great deals now. You never know what kind of carpet deals you’re going to find. And the best deals, are always the ones you find when you are not in desperate need of an immediate solution.

It may be possible to find discount carpet remnants online, and so we’ve found a few places which may be able to help you out. Here are a list of online retailers that actually claim to have discount remnants on sale. More often these carpet’s are necesarily remnants but just product they have on clearance. So if you continue shopping around online on your own, just look for a sites “clearance” or “closeout” section. Again, making certain to check pricing details specificually on shipping. Check back often as this list will certainly change as some merchants have stopped selling in just the time we’ve been looking into this. Each link goes to the appropriate page on the site which lists their best deals or discount remnants:

Almost all of us have compared prices for carpet, and although the prices have come down significantly in the past few years, carpeting a house, large or small rooms is still not a cheap affair. Just like any other business, you’ll see great ads and sales saying they have the cheapest carpet in town and promising all sorts of great deals. Do you know what those ads are for? Ads are for getting customers into the store, not selling items! That is a fact of business, especially businesses like this or any other arena. Ads are simply to get people in the doors so the salesmen can sell them an add-on or something else entirely. I just want to say that this is not entirely the case or a blanket statement of all carpet dealers. So if you’re a carpet salesman or own a carpet store, I’m sure you do offer great sales or deals. I know I’ve found some great deals as advertised, but I can also tell you that knowing certain sales tactics does help me become a more educated buyer…. I’m just sayin’ However, if you know what you are looking for, you can still find great deals on carpet and one of these deals is the carpet remnant!

First off, when most people hear the term “carpet remnant,” they immediately think it is discarded or a defective product. This is usually NOT the case. There are two ways in which carpet can become a remnant product. One is as the end of the original roll of carpet from the carpet mill and/or manufacturer. Many times the mill will cut off the last 5 to 30 feet of carpet in order to insure solid ends to the customer who ordered it, or they run past the length to make sure they have enough for the order. The carpet is simply left over and is as good as new. Many carpet warehouses bulk order this from the mill for extremely low prices and that is where we get it for a great deal!

The other scenario is pretty much the same in that the remnant carpet is left over from a large carpeting job or from a huge custom order in which all the carpet was simply not needed. The installer or carpet company usually offloads this again for a discounted price—sometimes called bound carpet remnants which basically means they’re already bound—and is still basically brand new. Additionally, many of these carpets are of extremely high quality. Most often the best deals you’ll find are on shorter length or more rugged typed carpets. This is due to the large amount of retail office space that is carpeted and the large amount of left-over remnants from these large jobs. Even if you have several rooms you want to carpet, often times you can get enough remnants to cover complete rooms with the same or complimentary carpet colors. And remember, most of the carpets are designed for commercial use so they are high quality and will stand up to high traffic.

Even if you’re not necessarily looking for office style carpet, you can still find some great deals on more luxurious styles as well, you just have to be a little more patient and know where to look. We’ve found the best way is to call a local carpet shop and ask if they have carpet remnants, then go look for yourself first hand. Although we’ve found some of the best deals are online. Many online carpet retailers will actually send you a sample of their remnants so be sure to ask. The trick in getting cheap carpet, or any cheap flooring for that matter, is not being afraid to ask questions and keep shopping until you get the size, style, and price that will fit within your budget.

Not only are carpet remnants as good as new, most often they will still have the manufacturers original warranty attached. But this is something you’ll want to make sure and check for as some do not extend their warranties to remnants, especially if they were bulk sold to wholesalers. There are also many good resources for finding carpet remnants online, so be sure to check that out and be aware of all your options for finding the best deals.

So the next time you need to carpet or re-carpet a room or small area, consider carpet remnants!
